A Day of Thanks, Thanksgiving Day
Last night I went to the movies with my good buddy Eric Hendrickson. We went to see the movie National Treasure. Now, having been disappointed by Jerry Bruckheimer productions since the masterpiece that is Pirates of the Carribean, I was a little worried. But I am very happy to say that National Treasure, in my opinion has been the greatest production of Bruckheimer films since Pirates and I was glued to my seat the entire movie (except when I got up because I thought I was going to throw up) . The movie was awesome. I cannot wait to go see it again. So here I will formally recommend for your viewing enjoyment, National Treasure starring Nicholas Cage, which is out now in the theatres.
This morning I went to our annual Thanksgiving Day service at the church. Every year people publicly give thanks for whatever they feel necessary to publicly give thanks for and this year was quite emotional. I dont think there was a dry eye in the entire congregation (save mine of course) and every single person was getting up and saying stuff, it was amazing. We sang this song by a British Poet named Stuart Townsend and the song was one of the deepest contemporary "praise songs" that I have ever sung. The words were meaningful and thoughtful, none of that mushy, pointless repetition that is so characteristic in the songs of churches today. I think I am a Townsend fan, officially.
We are getting ready to go over to my pastor's house for Thanksgiving. I am really excited because every year the Thanksgiving meal and fellowship is better than the year before. I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving full of warm food and fellowship. Wish I was up in the big WA with our whole family but down here will do just fine. Besides I will be up there before I know it, with all you guys and especially with ahem* BRITTANY ahem*. Adios Muchachos. Turkey Here I Come
Sometimes you feel overwhelmed
I wont be able to post three times day for very long. I think today was my last "free" day so to speak. I had originally planned my first three days of vacation to be days of reading in my many books. What it turned into was three days of internet. Although I can tell you that all the time spent online was very beneficial. I subscribed to a couple things, ordered some catalogs, caught up with alot of my old friends, made a Christmas list (a few books), and looked at a bunch of colleges on their websites. Here is where i started to freak out. As I am reading the requirements for a particular college I quickly realized how stupid i was. This feeling doubled when I realized that I could be doing homework, you know like starting some papers that I have due in a few days, doing some lessons in Math, reading in the books I should be reading in, taking the Chemistry Notes that are going to be due Monday, all of those kinds of things that normal, non-lazy people accomplish. So as I write this now, thinking of the homework that needs to be done, I am overwhelmed. The need to go to a movie right now is not helping, I need to because I said I would, at this moment in time rather staying home to do homework sounds wonderful, but because I commited to it the responsibility for my consequences is necessary. Did I ever tell anyone that I complain alot? hmm...
If only
Ladies and Gentlemen what you are about to read might be one of the funniest fables ever read by your brain through your eyes in your life. If you have never been exposed to the beauty of the Credenda Agenda today will mark a new beginning. Credenda Agenda is a series of witty and satirical journals published as a ministry of Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho. The Editor (Douglas Wilson) is pretty darn hilarious and periodically he uses great parables to Enlighten his readers as they seek to unpack whatever he is saying in the particular article. In one issue titled "A Pauline Take on the New Perspective" he clarifies unclear (and more often than not, wrong) assumptions and ideas that people may have concerning his take on the book of Romans, Paul, etc. At one point, while trying to defend his position based on the Westminster Confession, he uses this genius fable...
Presbyterian Fable Number 2
A young ministerial candidate was asked whether his sacramental views comported with those of the Westminster Standards. This line of questioning was a novelty to him, and so he asked for a copy. One was quickly produced, but when it became apparent that he was not going to swear on it, but on the contrary , intended to open and read it, the moderator rebuked him sternly. " We have asked if your views are consistent with the Standards, young man, and did not ask you to intrude yourself upon them by considering what they may appear to say." Abashed by his error , the young man apologized and was quickly forgiven.

Frustrations Abound
So..........I am on my Thanksgiving vacation as of present. Our school allows us an entire week to indulge in our lazy and unproductive fancies, such as making blogs, making myspace sites (which I can tell you is very very addicting), and talking for endless hours on AIM. It all kind of sickens me though. I just bought alot of books that I, in all honesty, wanted to read during my week off. I wanted to make headway on numerous papers that are due sooner than I am letting myself believe and since Math is getting to be quite a challenge, once again more so than I am letting myself believe, I wanted to finish some lessons and get ahead. This of course always gets you "good points" with the teachers which is always beneficial. But because I have had zero time to go on the computer since September and now that I can it is somewhat of a novelty. So needless to say the computer is all I am wanting to do as of late. By the end of this week i will at least have one book read I know that for sure. I had bought Doug Wilson's "Reformed Is Not Enough: Recovering the Objectivity of the Covenant" just to see for myself what this "insane, malicious, and disrespecting Heretic spawned by none other than the Roman Catholic Church" (Teahan, His wonderful Brain, 1). Supposedly this dude hadn't studied Latin enough and was confusing some really basic phrases like Sola Fide and then components of Fide such as Notitia, Assensus, and Fiducia. Right now I am in the fourth chapter and I still have yet to read anything heretical. Maybe the accusers forgot to read his book, I dont know, no one is perfect so they might have forgot, or they weren't listening. Anyways I believe that this is a long enough post for the first one. Thanks for reading and I will talk to you soon.
